Okay, so I realize that two of those are both by Mika, but I just couldn't resist adding both of them to the list because I can totally see them both as beginnings to films. I also have a weird feeling that I've seen a movie where "Fat Lip" is the opening song and that's the reason I like it, but I can't think of if that's true. If it is, will someone please let me know? This is supposed to be an exercise for what could be or what should be, not what is (that's no fun). Opening credits are just so much fun to do (I mean, they set the mood for the ENTIRE movie- that's a lot of pressure, you know?), so I felt I had to include this list.

Feel free to post with your fave opening songs/ potential songs. I will make a playlist later. I also think I might post a list with my favorite existing opening credit sequences. That will be after this series, though. I like to feel like I've completed something.

Songs That Should Go in Movie Scenes: Part II

There's something about watching an action movie that gets your blood going, and I'm convinced that 90% of the adrenaline you experience while watching Die Hard, or Wanted, or whatever, is because of the music used. So here are songs that I think would be perfect for a really good action/chase scene. I made two lists, so off we go:

"Troublemaker" by Weezer

One of my favorite movies is Gone in 60 Seconds, partly because I think it's from a time when action movies were actually good, but that's for another blog entry. Anyway, I apologize if a lot of the songs seem like they could fit into that movie, but it just has a ton of really fucking good chase sequences.

By Foot

I am a HUGE fan of chase scenes by foot that have actually no music (Friday-the-13th-esque), but, when it is absolutely necessary, I think I would choose one of these songs. I think chase scenes by foot are better without music because there is only so much chasing you can do by foot, and silence makes whatever footage you have last longer. The more music included, the longer the sequence has to be, in my opinion. Anyway, tell me what you think.

Songs That Should Go in Movie Scenes: Part I

Ok, so, if you haven't been able to tell by now, I'm obsessed with background music in movies. Actually, putting music in films is my favorite part of making a film (I was originally going to be a production major before I changed my mind), and I seriously normally have all the music in mind in advance of shooting (or drawing- that's been the case twice now). So I'm going to embark on several different lists of the best songs I think should be in different types of scenes. To start with everyone's favorite:

Sex Scenes

1. "You Can Make Me Feel Bad" by the Shocking Pinks

2. "Lust" by The Raveonettes

3. "Masters in China" by Priscilla Ahn

4. "Laugh I Nearly Died" by the Rolling Stones

5. "Supermassive Black Hole" by Muse

6. "Sway" by Voxtrot

7. "Come Out and Play" by The Offspring

8. "The Only Ones Who Know" by The Arctic Monkeys

9. "Get Over It" by OK Go

10. "Speaking In Tongues" by Eagles of Death Metal

Now, this is a verrry varied list. To me, it all depends on how you cut the scene, and judging by the order of songs on the list, you can I tell I am a bigger fan of slow, artsy sex scenes (often cut with no sound except for music, which is what make music so important) such as the scene with Vera Farmiga and Leonardo di Caprio in The Departed, than I am of scenes meant to be light such as the one between Kirsten Dunst and Jamie Dornan (who played Count Ferson) in Marie Antoinette. Both types fit different movies, however, which is why I included a variety of music on the list. I will update later with a music player so you can listen.
